Device Recommendations & Kiosk Set Up Guide

A short guide to choosing and setting up a tablet or kiosk device for use with Conduit (driver check-in, photo capture, and related workflows).

Which device should I buy?

There is no single "Conduit tablet," and we don't take a strong opinion on the make or model — especially for warehouse use like taking photos of orders. Conduit runs in the web browser, so any modern tablet works as long as it meets a few basic requirements:

  • At least 4GB of RAM. This is our general recommendation for running Conduit smoothly.

  • A good-quality, browser-accessible camera if your team will take photos (of orders, seals, trailers, etc.). For photo-heavy workflows, a true Android tablet or iPad is preferred — some desktop-class devices such as a Microsoft Surface Pro won't always let a browser app use the camera directly, forcing you to upload from the camera roll instead.

  • A front-facing camera if the device will be used as a check-in kiosk, since driver check-in typically needs one.

  • A current, up-to-date web browser (e.g. Chrome or Safari) — Conduit is browser-based, so the browser is what matters most.

  • Reliable connectivity — Wi-Fi or cellular strong enough to stay connected in the yard, dock, or gate area where the device will live.

Running the tablet as a kiosk

When a tablet is dedicated as a check-in kiosk, we usually recommend using MDM (Mobile Device Management) software to lock the device to Conduit's check-in pages.

Locking the device down:

  • Prevents drivers or staff from navigating away to other apps or websites.

  • Keeps the tablet dedicated to the check-in flow, so it's always ready for the next driver.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to buy anything special from Conduit to run this?

No — Conduit doesn't sell or provide tablets, kiosks, mounts, or any physical hardware. We're a browser-based software platform, so you'll need to source your own device (see device recommendations above) through your preferred retailer or IT supplier. We're happy to advise on what to look for, but the hardware purchase and ownership is on your end.

Does Conduit work on iOS and Android, or just one?

Conduit runs in the browser, so it works on both — there's no dedicated app to install. Any modern tablet running an up-to-date version of Chrome or Safari will work.

Can I use a device I already have, or do I need to buy something new?

Yes, as long as it meets the minimum requirements above (RAM, camera, browser, connectivity). Many customers repurpose existing tablets before buying new ones — just double check the camera behavior if photo capture is part of your workflow.
